Dr. Helen Nicholas
Counselling Psychologist and EMDR Consultant
Dr. Helen Nicholas is a registered counselling psychologist, EMDR Consultant, supervisor, and researcher with extensive experience in the field of psychology since 1993. She holds a doctorate in psychotherapeutic and counselling psychology and has completed a foundation course in family therapy and systemic practice. Over her career, Dr. Nicholas has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including NHS psychology departments, private hospitals, charity organizations, and independent private practice. She specializes in trauma and anxiety, providing therapy to adults and older adults.
Dr. Nicholas is also an accomplished writer and researcher. She has taught on the British Psychological Society (BPS) Division of Occupational Psychology leadership and development programme and has held several voluntary leadership positions within the BPS, including roles as a trustee, chair of the Division of Counselling Psychology, and chair of the BPS South West of England Branch. She has served as the (Interim) Head of Department at a UK university and holds a postgraduate certificate in learning and teaching in higher education. Dr. Nicholas has co-edited books on leadership and diversity in psychology and counselling psychology in practice.
In addition to her work in psychology, Dr. Nicholas has completed 200-hour Ashtanga and Yin Yoga teacher training and conducts yoga workshops that integrate yoga and therapy. She is particularly interested in the connection between stress, trauma, and the body, and explores how movement and exercise can help alleviate tension resulting from trauma and stress.
