Dr Alison Killen
Chartered Health Psychologist
Dr Alison Killen (she/her) is a Health Psychologist working with people with long-term physical health conditions, neurodegenerative conditions and dementia. She also works with families and partners to support their adjustment to these diagnoses. Alison works in an NHS clinic and has worked in healthcare settings for many years including as a general and paediatric nurse. She received her Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology from Staffordshire University in 2020. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a practitioner psychologist and is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society.
Alison uses a variety of therapeutic approaches predominantly Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She is also particularly interested in the role of positive psychology in building resilience. Research areas of interest: Alison conducts research at Newcastle University and has authored a number of publications. Her work includes designing psychosocial interventions and self-management tools for people with dementia and family caregivers. She is also developing innovative ways to involve underserved groups in research both locally and internationally.
